Mason Pearson first began making hairbrushes in England in 1885 and still does.  They also make combs.

The unique rubber-cushion pad, made by hand using Mason Pearson’s original techniques allows for effective and efficient brushing. It is kind to use and massages the scalp.

To maintain the quality of the Mason Pearson hairbrush it is not mass produced.  Most of the work is carried out by hand, using techniques pioneered and patented by the founder - Mason Pearson - over one hundred years ago and improved over succeeding generations.

Which brush is best for you?

In general, the longer the hair the bigger the brush required. However, if a person is more comfortable with a smaller brush, it may be necessary to use a smaller mixture model instead of a larger pure bristle one. Men primarily use the military brushes, but many women swear by them and wouldn't use anything else.

Mason Pearson has established the below guidelines below on their customers’ experience over many years.  However, these guidelines are very basic and you should pay attention to what works for you.

If you have fine to normal hair, long hair Mason Pearson recommends Pure Bristle brushes:

Mason Pearson recommends Sensitive models for very fine or thinning hair.

The Child’s model for children aged between 3 and 6 years.

Mason Pearson recommends Bristle & Nylon Mixture brushes for normal and short thick hair.

Long Hair: In general, the longer the hair the bigger the brush required. However, if a person is more comfortable with a smaller brush, it may be necessary to use a smaller mixture model instead of a larger pure bristle one.
